Agricultural, forestry, and fishery cooperatives help shape the image of Slovenian agriculture and countryside. The cooperative is an independent union of legal and natural persons, with the purpose to fulfil their common economic, social and cultural needs. Cooperatives are the only organizations where their members are also the investors, managers and business partners. The goal of cooperatives is helping their members to achieve greater economical results. This is enabled by facilitating the access to the market and by exploring the favourable conditions of a united representation. Cooperative members are more competitive and successful on the market. They act according to the principles of solidarity and reciprocity.
Agricultural and forestry cooperatives in Slovenia undertake numerous activities. The cooperatives provide services for farms and rural population, especially in remote areas. They are important buyers of many agricultural products, e.g. milk, grapes, potato, cattle for slaughter, vegetables, cereals, wood, hop, etc. They also engage in food processing activities, e.g. grapes, milk, meat. Another important activity is retail sale, which supplies the countryside and contributes to its preservation, population and secures employment.
